Victorian sprinter, Proven Nitro, was too good in Saturday night’s (November 3) Group1 Centrebet Vic Peters Classic Final (520m) beating Allen Dion and Renegade Chief at Wentworth Park.

Coming into the series with strong Group 1 form, Proven Nitro set the time standard during the heats (October 20) and did not let down his connections and followers in the 29.96 victory tonight, claiming $75,000 for his efforts.

Trainer Jason Thompson said following the Final it was pleasing to see the dog achieve such a feat.

The win gave Thompson his second Group 1 win at Wentworth Park for 2012, backing up his Golden Easter Egg win in April with Don’t Knocka Him.

Andrea Dailly’s Allen Dion led the race throughout, getting pipped by Proven Nitro within strides of the line, while race favourite Renegade Chief battled on strongly to finish in third.

A son of Nitro Burst x Proven Cobalt, the black dog has followed in the steps of his father, which won the Vic Peters back in 2008.

The Centrebet Vic Peters capped an exciting night at Wentworth Park, which also included the second running of the Do You Think You Can Score? Soccer Penalty Shoot Out.

With up to $20,000 on offer, 11 lucky contestants went home with $1,000 or more. A fantastic spectacle, the payout of $12,000 is sure to see even more people take on the challenge on December 29, just in time for New Year’s Eve partying in Sydney.
