Blacktown trainer Troy Vella claimed his biggest victory in greyhound racing at Wentworth Park on Saturday night (November 9), winning the 520m Group 1 Sportingbet Vic Peters Classic.

Vella who has only a few in work, experienced the emotional high of claiming the $75,000 to the winner event which is steeped in rich history.

Belfast Johnny was quickly away from the boxes posting early sections of 5.42 and 17.92 to beat Whata Good Size and Avondale Porche by over five lengths in best of the night figures of 29.63.

The unassuming trainer’s children, who were also trackside, quickly built the wishlist to help spend the earnings picked up by the son of Cosmic Rumble x Wongawillisue.

Wentworth Park’s next feature event is the 720m Group 3 Schweppes Summer Cup on November 30, with sensational stayers set to return to the Glebe circuit.
