Wentworth Park is set for a cracking show down of staying prowess on Saturday, December 7, with the final of the Group 3, 720m, Schweppes Summer Cup.

With heats conducted at the Glebe circuit on Saturday, November 30, a sensational final eight runners has been assembled for the $25,000 to the winner event.

American import, Lucy Wires again showed her determination and athleticism in running down early leader Infinite Wish in the opening heat of the series.

In a thrilling finish, reigning Summer Cup champion, Bell Haven battled the final metres with recent Sydney Cup winner Lucy Wires, with Lucy wires prevailing by 1¾ lengths in 42.08, with Smart Valentino rattling home to fourth position to qualify for the final.

In the second qualifier it was Dyna Willow which ran the competition ragged, leading all the way to post a 41.92 victory. Finishing a clear 9½ lengths in front of her closest rival, Seven Straight, Dyna Willow was sensational on the clock, carving out sections of 5.36, 16.13, 29.47, all faster that the time standard set in the opening qualifier.

Saturday’s Schweppes Summer Cup Final, will be supported by the running of the 520m, Group 3, Christmas Gift. With four sensational heats expected, racing will be at its finest at Wentworth Park.

First race for Saturday’s meeting is at 7.22pm, with gates open at 5.30pm.
