Heats hit sensational 25th year
31 March 2014
The 2014 Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg 25th year will open in sensational style, with Australia’s best 500m performers making their way to Sydney for this Saturday’s opening round of qualifiers.
The ten Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg heats are set to showcase a host of proven sprinters including recent Australian Cup winner, Buckle Up Wes, Perth Cup winners, Keybow (2014) and Dyna Nalin (2013), as well as the full spectrum of quality Wentworth Park and interstate runners.
Perth based mentor, Paul Stuart, who will head east to start Dyna Nalin in the opening heat said the favourable box one draw will assist his sole runner in the series.
“I was happy with how he trialled last Saturday,” Stuart said.
“Drawing the rail will give him a favourable run, given he doesn’t have a great deal of pace early, and should allow him to get somewhere handy enough to finish strongly.”
The Group 1, Topgun winner, trialed 5.58, 17.89, 29.65, before last weekend’s first race, which will hold him in good stead when he lines up against in form NSW runners Chica Destacada and Fast Archer, as well as Victorian’s Shadow Lane and Allen Eryk.
NSW Trainer, Mark Gatt, also faired well in the box draw, with six of his seven starters drawing either box one or two. Thirlmere based Gatt said that the draw was unbelievable and hoping his representatives could utilise the draws.
“There is plenty pace on the outside of Boyce Road (heat seven), but that should allow him to get a good rails position at the first turn, and being in striking distance after that.
“Box two for Ritza Hattie is excellent, if she steps well there are no excuses, despite the tough field,” Gatt said.
