Record holders headline Cup
8 April 2014
Recent track record runners Xylia Allen and Dyna Willow will head line Saturday’s three heats of the 720m Group 1 AAA Radiator Specialists Association Cup at Wentworth Park.
Returning to the staying ranks in recent starts, proven Group performer Xylia Allen will open the qualifiers, starting from box one. Setting a new 680m track record at Geelong last Friday, April 5, the Wheeler owned starter already holds the Group 1 Peter Mosman title at the Glebe circuit, and is now well position to add another trophy to the mantle.
Xylia Allen will meet a host of strong stayers including Queenslander, Wag Tail (box four) and Victorians Infinite Wish (box two) and Alpe D’Huez (box six).
In the second qualifier, new Wentworth Park 720m track record holder, Dyna Willow will head heat betting, despite drawing box five. The daughter of Collision x Horizon Bale has overcome awkward draws in recent starts at the track, including in her Group 2 Betfair Cup win back on March 29, where she started from box six, eclipsing Miata’s previous record in the run, where she stopped the clock at 41.74 seconds.
Up and coming stayer Whodat Knockin’ has drawn well in box two and adds to the depth of the heat which also included Born Ali (box one) and Western Australian runner Ash Flash.
NSW top grader Cawbourne Looney drawn in box one in the final heat is likely to share race favourtism with staying youngster Dyna Kayla (box three). Dyna Kayla was unlucky in running in her sole Wentworth Park appearance to date, finishing fifth in the heats of the Betfair Cup in March. Impressive in her Victorian staying starts the Andrea Dailly prepared runner will be better suited to the inside draw this weekend. Strong NSW finisher Folk Tails has also drawn well in box two and has been in good form of recent.
With plenty on the line, the 2014 AAA Radiator Speciliasts Association Cup has come together as one of the strongest series in recent years, with racegoers on Saturday in for a great night of racing, as the program will also include four Macro Meats semi-finals and four of the 4/5th grade 520m Ultra Sense (listed event) heats.
