Queen Marina (distance) and Chica Destacada (sprint) will represent NSW in the 2014 AGRA National TABTouch Championships in Perth on August 23 after winning their respective State Finals at Wentworth Park on Saturday (August 9).

The stayers were the first to run, with Queen Marina spearing the lids from box five, leading all the way to win in 42.29 over Pumped Up Zarr and Miss Fiction. Race favourite Dusty Moonshine wasn’t able to get a clear run in to the race, finishing in fourth.

The daughter of Lochinvar Marlow x Fascinate Marina, is owned and trained by Noelene Holloway on the state’s Central Coast. Holloway who bred the litter herself was overwhelmed with the win, topping a sensational month of wins for the likeable trainer.

In the sprint final pre race favourite Chica Destacada didn’t disappoint favourite backers leading all the way to clock up an impressive 29.60 victory. Scoring by 2 ½ lengths over Tommy Brislane, with Peter Mosman winner Bessy Boo finishing in second.

Prepared by Doreen Drynan at Llandilo for the Dee And Pee Syndicate, Chica Destacada was impressive on the bunny, posting sections of 5.33 and 17.88.

Speaking after the race trainer Doreen Drynan said she was elated to be again contesting a Nationals title, and was hoping that ’Chica’ could improve on her WA Oaks effort when last in the West.

Both NSW qualifiers will offer earlier speed to their respective Championships, which should place them in a good position in the Group 1, $75,000 to the winner Finals.

NSW trainers, Alan and Christine Proctor also have a nervous wait on other results to see if Bessy Boo will gain a start in the Nationals series. Bessy Boo is reliant on both Buckle Up Wes and Zelemar Fever winning their respective finals to gain a start at Cannington on August 23.
