Zipping
Maggie, claimed an impressive 41.78 victory in Saturday’s (September 13) Group
3, Chairman’s Cup (720m) at Wentworth Park.
Prepared
by Victorian trainer Peter Dapiran for owners Martin and Fiona Hallinan, the
daughter of Turanza Bale x Natalie Rass speared the lids to lead all the way
and claim a four length victory over Xylia Allen, while Sweet It Is finished in
third.
Australia’s
leading prizemoney earner, Xylia Allen, didn’t step well, sitting in fourth
position early before being able to find space and commence a chase on the early
leader Zipping Maggie. Renowned strong finisher, Sweet It Is, was shuffled back
to near last out of the boxes, and wasn’t able to get into clear room until
passing the 720m boxes in the back straight.
Speaking
after the race, trainer Peter Dapiran, thanked the support of his family,
including wife Mandy and owners Martin and Fiona Hallinan.
The
win puts Zipping Maggie on the map as a serious challenger to the likes of
Xylia Allen and Sweet It Is, as Wentworth Park gears up for more staying events
in the next two months.
Heats
of the Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint (520m) will headline next Saturday’s
(September 20) meeting, before the stayers return to centre stage on October 4
with heats of the Group 3, Bohemia Crystal Sydney Cup.
