Ando's Mac once again justified his favouritism in last nights Group One Ladbrokes Vic Peters final, with a stunning 29.69 win from box six. The race was made for the Jason-Mackay trained speedster after notable beginner Reviewer badly missed the start from box seven, giving plenty of room for the fawn flyer to move early on.
Mackay's unbeaten chaser Mister Twister was best away from box five and led for the first few strides of the race, until Ando's Mac shot past him approaching the first turn, recording a sizzling first sectional of 5.40. This son of El Grand Senor and Brook's Doll raced away from his rivals to score by five and half lengths at the finish over Mister Twister, with second favourite Benteke finishing in third position.
Ando's Mac owner and breeder Luke Anderson was understandably ecstatic after the win.
"Dad and I bred his litter and that's what makes it even more special."
"I wasn't really sure with the box and was just hoping he could jump well again and he did."
"When he got to the front I was confident he could win but was just thinking, come on boy keep going."
"It's a dream come true that I thought would never happen to us."
Jason Mackay now plans to take his group one winner to Melbourne for a prelude race next week, then hopefully give him the opportunity to race in the $420,000 to the winner Melbourne Cup series, which will commence on 11 November.
"He's first two sectionals were outstanding again and I said it was his race to lose last week, but he did everything right again tonight," said Mackay.
It was a good race with good prizemoney and to get the quinella was great."
"I'll take Ando's Mac to Melbourne for a prelude next week and then give him a shot at the Melbourne Cup series and with his early sectionals, hopefully he goes alright."
Mackay's runner-up Mister Twister, who suffered his first career defeat at start number six last night, won't be heading south next week.
"He'll race at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night and then go home for a couple of weeks off," Mackay confirmed.
Last nights victory resulted in Ando's Mac now being at six-figure prizemoney statistics of $124,386 from fourteen wins.
