GRNSW and the NSW GBOTA are proud to support a fundraising and memorial dinner in honour of the late James Perry.

The fundraiser will be held at Wentworth Park Sporting Complex on Friday 20 May 2011, commencing at 6.30pm.

Just over 100 days ago former Racing NSW, GRNSW, NSW Greyhound and Harness Racing Regulatory Authority and Queensland Harness Racing Steward James Perry was tragically killed in the Queensland floods.

The image of James, his wife and young son on top of their white 4WD as it was carried down by the raging waters that coursed through the Lockyer valley, just outside of Toowoomba, remain etched in our memories.

James had just taken up a new role with Racing Queensland and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. His loss brings home to those in racing that these events can and do impact everyone.

“All in the NSW greyhound industry and the wider racing communities were shocked and saddened with the loss of James who as a steward and integrity manager for GHHRA was well respected by his peers and all within our industry,” said GRNSW Chief Executive Brent Hogan.

“James was a colleague, a friend, a man of great integrity, decency and honour. He loved racing as well as the people and personalities involved in all three racing codes.

“Importantly James was a husband and a father, it is therefore fitting that the racing industry has come together to support the Perry family and raise funds that will be directly used to assist the family rebuild and importantly provide opportunities for James’ son Teddy.”

The night will have some super entertainment, an auction and raffles to help generate funds to pass on to the Perry family.

Tickets are all inclusive and selling for $130 each or a table of 10 for $1200. Bookings can be made through GRNSW on (02) 8767 0500 or via email to Tony O’Mara at tomara@grnsw.com.au with assistance in donating auction and raffle items also greatly appreciated.
