Victorian greyhound, Kilty Lad, will look to win his first group one final at Wentworth Park in Saturday’s (June 25) Rapidvite Peter Mosman.
Connections of the pre-race favourite believe that next week’s $50,000 event is an open affair.
Trainer Brett Bravo says that despite the interstate travel required by his greyhound, Kilty Lad, will pose a strong chance when he lines up for his seventh group race final on Saturday.
“He is used to the pressure but in the final he will face eight dogs that can run,” Bravo said.
“It’s going to depend on which greyhound can get away the best.”
Kilty Lad was unable to produce his best beginning in April’s Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg, finishing fifth behind Radley Bale in the world’s richest greyhound race.
Returning to Wentworth Park last week the black dog drew box one in the heats, winning convincingly in 29.81.
Drawn in box eight for his semi-final, Kilty Lad was required to work hard to close the gap on the leader Loathsome.
Loathsome trained by Jason Magri recorded the fastest semi-final win of 29.56 which included a blistering 5.32 first section.
The son of Bombastic Shiraz will need to show his early toe again next week if he is to overcome his box eight draw.
Adam Meway which finished third in the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg will start in his third group one final for this year, gaining box five in next week’s age restricted classic.
Trainer Anthony Azzopardi was pleased with the outcome of the box draw, believing the pace greyhounds have drawn outside Adam Meway.
“I’m pretty happy with where he has drawn, he should be able to lead all the dogs on his inside, and if he does he should be hard to beat,” Azzopardi said.
The successful trainer is confident going into next week’s group one final, despite coming up against experienced campaigner Kilty Lad.
“Kilty Lad is still the dog to beat, but he’s got to travel a bit more now and we don’t.
“That plays a big part in these big races,” Azzopardi said.
The box draw for Saturday’s group one Rapidvite Peter Mosman final is as follows:
