Following the running of four Sprint (520m) NSW Nationals heats tonight (Saturday August 6) at Wentworth Park the box draw for the Macro Meats NSW State Sprint final has been completed with Prince Diablo drawing the coveted red alley.
Renowned NSW trainer John Finn’s youngster Prince Diablo posted the quickest of the four heat winners, more than one tenth of a seconds faster than other heat winners Cold Fusion (29.70), Fancy Dean (29.74) and He Knows Uno (29.74).
Finn hopes that the son of Premier Fantasy x Best Of Diablo will be able to get the first few balancing strides required be competitive in next Saturday’s final.
“I am real happy, the red was the only box I wanted,” Finn said.
“Once he balances up he is good, he will hunt up along the fence and just hope the rest of the field move off for him.”
Having had runners in the Nationals series previously the master trainer is aware how fortunate he is with the box one in the final.
“The start will really dictate how he will go, but he is a good dog and he has drawn the right box, we have been lucky so far so hopefully things can continue to go his way.”
Prince Diablo will have to be at his best again to finish first ahead of inform Things Missing (box two) Fancy Dean (box five) and He Knows Uno (box 3).
Having finished second in the 2011 Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg, Michael Patterson trained He Knows Uno (pictured) should make the most of the inside draw and early pace to his left.
Patterson was pleased with his sprinters performance in the heats and happy to be starting in another feature event.
“I was pleased with him tonight, he got into a good position early and came home hard again, it’s nice to be in another big one,” Patterson said following the race.
