Mal Norman, a successful Sydney suburban trainer for over 50 years, has passed away.

Norman, who was based at Seven Hills, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, July 12.

Long-time client, owner Daniel Zahra, said his friend, who had an earlier heart condition, was unwell on the day before he passed away.

"Mal's last city winner was my bitch Champness Gal, who won at Wentworth Park in October, 2013,'' Zahra said.

"Mal was not only a highly accomplished trainer but he was a genius at correcting greyhound injuries through massage and manipulation.

"There was nobody better than him with that skill.''

Mal Norman's funeral will be held on Saturday at Pine Grove Cemetery, Minchinbury, at 10am.
